How to keep the kids amused on a rainy day in the Peak District.

Going on holiday with children is always exciting, however lets be honest, it can be very tiring for the parents. Many families even bring grandparents along to join in on the fun and for that extra pair of hands. Hands up if this is you!

But what happens when the sunny Peak District we once knew turns grey and rainy? Don’t worry – there are plenty of fun, family friendly activities to keep kids entertained on those extra rainy days.

Here is a roundup of the best things to do around the Peak District National Park with the kids.

1 – Gullivers Kingdom, Matlock

One of the locals’ favorite attractions in the Peaks. This fairground wonderland has everything from 2p machines to fast roller coasters. Despite this amusement park being outdoors there is still a lot of fun to have on a rainy day!

2 – Little Monkeys, Matlock

When the rain pours, head indoors to this small indoor play area in Matlock, near Darwin Forest. With slides, climbing frames and soft play zones for the babies, it is the perfect place to let the kids roam free and burn off some energy. Food and drinks are available inside there’s no need to take packed lunches although that is an option.

Designed for children under 11 and under 1.45m (4ft9).

3 – The Arc Swimming Center, Matlock

What says rainy day more than a day at the swimming baths? The Arc is a fantastic choice and offers inflatable courses, as well as their regular swimming sessions for the younger ones. A day in the swimming baths is a great way to spend a rainy day in the Peaks.

4 – Cosy Holiday Cottage Fun

The best one of them all! Sometimes, the best rainy-day activities happen right where you’re staying. Pack a little “rainy day kit” before your stay and you’ll be ready for cosy family fun, such as: Board games or card games for all ages, baking, indoor scavenger hunts and a makeshift cinema night.

Rain may not be in your holiday plans, but the peak district offers many things to do to not stop it getting in your way. Some of the best memories as a family will be made right here in the Peak District. From theme parks to indoor swimming centres, the Peak District has it all for a rainy day! After all the adventure doesn’t stop because of some rain!
