Having a holiday home on Porth beach on the coastline of Cornwall, means we take much interest in the many things that you can do in and around Porth and Newquay while you stay. Therefore, we would like to share our favorite hidden beaches that you may want to visit during your stay, not many people know about these beaches so keep reading and find your next, secret beach destination!
Please be aware that most of these beaches are unflagged and have no lifeguard therefore we push you to follow guidance on the RNLI website for information on staying safe at the beach.
Lusty Glaze Beach – Newquay
Known for its amazing views and brilliant amenities, Lusty Glaze Beach offers amazing food and bars, plus the picturesque views that the beach offers. Hidden in the cliffs of the Cornish coastline, Lusty Glaze beach has direct access to Porth and Newquay, meaning this secluded space is just a 15-minute walk over the headland from The Sail Loft.
With 88 steep steps, down to the beach, this walk not for the faint-hearted so please keep that in mind if this breathtaking beach is on your to do list. When the tide is out, the beach offers amazing experiences of rock pooling for children and lovely bars with sandy views for adults. You really do get the best of both worlds!
Within walking distance of The Sail Loft, you must visit Lusty Glaze for your next day at the beach.
Fox Cove
This small cove, just a little further north of The Sail Loft, is the prime example of a secluded, private and relaxing beach, perfect for a small day trip when the tide is low. Surrounded by high, steep cliffs, the cove is very sheltered from the wind, perfect for a hot day of snorkeling in the clear water. P.s Don’t forget your suncream!
To access the beach, there is a small bridge and a steep path, so do be careful when trekking down to the cove. Despite the narrow paths, the reward of seeing the amazing views out to the Atlantic swells is very much worth the walk. A 30-minute drive from Porth Beach, Fox Cove gives access to all beaches on the coastline, while journeying to the beach itself, maybe stop off at Mawgan Porth for some breakfast or even Porthcothan for an ice cream.
Hawkers Cove
A picturesque spot located minutes away from Padstow with direct access to the Camel Estuary. Hawkers Cove offers both golden sand and clear waters for you to spend your day paddling, snorkeling and relaxing. Set just outside Padstow, this beautiful hidden gem is just 34 minutes from The Sail Loft. Set with a peaceful atmosphere; especially when compared to some of Cornwall’s more popular spots, Hawkers Grove is a must visit for a beach day.
Parking for this sheltered bay is available at Harbor Cove – a few minutes’ walk away from the cove itself. With the views and the crystal-clear sea alone, what more could you want out of a day at a British Beach!
Polly Joke Beach
Polly Joke beach has views you shouldn’t miss! Experience dipping your toes in the crystal-clear waters of the Cornish coast. This dog-friendly, golden sandy beach is only 20 minutes away from Porth! What makes this beach so special is the emerald, green waters that flow between the cliffs and caves, leaving you walking away with the best pictures looking upon the horizon. These caves offer the best shaded areas on a warm and calm summer’s day, surrounded by the amazing walls of the beach, and blue lagoon waters.
Polly Joke is a great family friendly beach with plenty of rock pools for the children to explore.
Pentire Steps Beach
Known as one of the best beaches in Cornwall, Pentire Beach is a 20-minute drive from The Sail Loft, the perfect distance for a peaceful walk along the seafront when visiting Cornwall. Accessing through tiny twisty paths and finishing with a scramble down the cliff edge this photogenic beach allows for amazing views out to sea with relaxing spots to relax. Due to the beach being quite difficult to get down to, this isn’t really the kind of beach to set up for the day, more of a view from the cliff edge feel.
Pentire is known to disappear when the tide is high so if this beach is on your bucket list, make sure to go in the daytime, when the tide is out to capture the perfect photos for the memory box.
